Konnyaku

Latin       : Amorphophallus sp

Konnyaku is a traditional Japanese jelly. Made from a kind of potato called ‘konnyaku potato', from calcium hydroxide and calcium oxide extracted from eggshells it serves as a health food. The konnyaku potato (Amorphophallus sp) is native to Indonesia where it is called iles—iles. In certain cultures it is known as voodoo lily or devils tongues.

Most of our modern food is acid and we are advised to eat more alcaline food. Konnyaku is such an uniquely alkaline food and therefore it can become an ideal health food for us.

Because it is low in calories and contains no fat Konnyaku is ideal for weight control. It prevents obesity and helps to maintain our health as it is rich in mineral and full of fiber. It stimulates excretion and helps us to keep in good shape.

 

It has recently been found that Konnyaku normalizes the level of cholesterol, prevents high blood pressure, normalizes blood sugar, prevents bowel cancer and haemorrhoids.
